Tell me about your free photo shoots
This summer I'll be doing a select series of portfolio building shoots designed to expand my style and create new awesome images. So if you're a model wanting to do the same, let's talk!
How do we plan a shoot?
I like to start by planning on a theme. I search for sample images in line with what I'd like to create, then working with you we plan the shoot. This allows me time to obtain props and accessories, and you time to plan on any wardrobe you might want to bring.
I'm fairly meticulous in planning and execution. I want us to be clear on "the look" we're trying to achieve, yet leave room for innovation and exploration.
What type of images are we trying to get?
I like images that tell a story by setting a scene, finding a mood, using light to set the stage, and finally a model that can "feel the emotion" and adjust her pose, expression and look to complete the story.
This doesn't need to be overly complex. Check out the images below and see how a simple gray wall, a bit of lighting, and a perfect model combine to create a thought provoking image.
What do I get out of it?
Portfolio building shoots like this are called "TFP" an old industry term meaning Time For Prints" meaning you give your time and in return you get images to use in your own portfolio with a printing release given by the photographer.
Shoots like this are based on the idea of mutual benefit, and no money is charged or paid.
Images I take at these shoots are fully retouched by me and you will see an online gallery of all my finished images (typically around 30 or so). From there you can choose the ones you like and get digital files ready to use in your online portfolio, for printing, or any other purpose you want.
Note: You will be required to provide a model release to me so I can use them in my portfolio and so on. There is a mutual agreement that neither of us may sell the images or use them in any paid commercial work without explicit permission of the other.
Where do we shoot and can I bring a friend or associate?
I'm located in Sudbury ON., and do most of my shooting here in my home studio, or occasionally on location when the theme requires it.
Local models are welcome to apply as are any model who may be visiting the area or willing to travel. Please note, we are not in a position to pay for your travel or accommodation expenses so it's your call on if you wish to travel or not.
What about hair, makeup and wardrobe?
For shoots like these you normally would do your own hair and makeup according to the plan for the shoot. Sometimes, we've able to provide specialty wardrobe, but plan on bringing items of your own as well.
If the shoot requires specialty makeup, we'll provide a makeup artist at our own expense.
Is there nudity or implied nudity?
It's up to you. we will never ask you to go further than your own comfort level. If you are not comfortable, then we simply plan a shoot that does not require it.
How do we get started?
Simply fill out the form below, and give us a few details such as if you're local or need to travel, links to any existing online portfolios, or images you're in such as Facebook, Instagram, tic tok etc.
If your traveling to the area anyway, let us know your expected dates and we can work something out.
